2021 Fall Season & '21-'22 Board of Directors Update

Dear MVLAGS Families,

We hope everyone is having a great summer so far! As our summer season (Nova & Summer Stars) comes to a close, we wanted to thank all of you who helped make this another successful summer of softball for our players.

On July 12th, we held our annual League Meeting in which the Board of Directors Officers for the ‘21-’22 league year (starts 9/1) were nominated and approved. Subsequent to that meeting, nominations for our other BOD positions for next year were confirmed. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help continue to bring softball to our community!

  • Additional board members: Renu Upadhay (USA Softball Liaison), Maddy Elles-Hill (Marketing Manager), Paul Valentino (Nova Chair), Nitin Badjatia (Field Crew Manager), Diedre Caldbeck (Head Scorekeeper), Kelly Moore (Uniform Coordinator), Terry McHugh (Umpire-in-Chief), Rich Sewell (Scheduler), Anthony Ting (Equipment Manager), Stefani Rocha (Snack Shack Coordinator), Zak Wiseman (Webmaster), Mai Buell (Clinic Coordinator), Irene Huang (12U Divisional Player Agent), Melissa Neal (Safety Coordinator), and Kate Sewell (Advisory Committee Member)

Fall Ball Update + Evaluation Save-the-Date

This fall, MVLAGS is aiming to support Fall Nova travel ball with teams at the 10U, 12U, and 14U levels. We will be holding evaluations on Saturday, Aug 21st, likely from 8am-1pm at Shoreline. Please register your player for the fall ball evaluation here. We will send out additional reminders as we get closer to the date, but please sign up soon!

Depending on evaluation turnout and interest, we may also be able to support “Fall Fireballs” for those players in the 8U age division and those who do not make a Nova team (or do not want to commit to the travel) in the older divisions. “Fall Fireballs” is the fall equivalent of “Summer Stars” (where we form combined 8/10U and 12/14U teams of 24 players). Note that for Fall ball, players play “up” to their Spring ‘22 age division, meaning the age they are as of Jan 1, 2022 will determine the division they play in for this Fall. Both Fall ball programs have a “lighter” schedule, meaning our Fall teams typically practice only 1x / week plus a weekend game/practice (typically Sundays). The Fall season starts in early September and ends in early November.

This fall we will continue COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California, 2021-22 School Year which states "masks are optional outdoors for all in K-12 school settings."

Hope to see everyone again soon,

Katie Coyle, on behalf of everyone on the ‘20-’21 and ‘21-’22 Board of Directors

2022 Spring Rec Season

We will be opening our 2022 Spring Rec season registration on Nov 1st. We will be updating this page with our registration link once registration opens. Practices start in early March and continue through middle of May. Our Spring Rec season aims to provide a fun, outdoor, social environment to grow the love of softball for those players aged 5-14. No experience is required, just a great attitude! Both equipment and scholarships are available as we want to sure anyone in our community who is interested can come out to play ball with us!

Volunteers are the Lifeblood of MVLAGS

Each of you are critical to our success - each season we have over 200 coaches, board members and volunteers. Please consider helping as we plan for the spring. We know that your time is precious, but there is nothing as rewarding as contributing to an organization that is focused on making our community and our young women stronger. If you have an hour -- we can use it. If you can make the commitment to 5 hours a month, consider being on our board. Please contact us -- it is work -- but your daughters will thank you.

Looking for Moms and Dads to Coach

If you love softball (or baseball), and think that you could potentially have what it takes to parent 13 children at once, consider being a coach! The coaching is less about the skills (we can teach you that), and more about making sure that your daughters are having fun while learning about their athleticism. We can give you the tools, all you need to do is remember that you only have a short time with your daughters before they are grown. They will always remember that mom or dad was there when they caught their first ball, hit their first hit, or threw their first out.
